In recognising Hong Kong’s position as an international legal hub, we are offering quality postgraduate law opportunities to the city’s aspiring legal professionals, with a wide portfolio of professional law degrees, specialist legal training and on-going professional development courses for barristers and solicitors.
A Master of Laws (LLM) is a postgraduate degree designed to enhance your academic legal knowledge, allowing you to focus on specific areas of interest. With the Master of Law (General) you can enjoy maximum flexibility in your choice of modules and dissertation topic. The course has been purposely designed to be an innovative, adaptable programme for law and non-law graduates to customise their studies to suit their preferred areas of interest.
The Master of Laws (General) is designed for those who desire flexibility in the choice of modules and dissertation topic while studying. The programme design means that you can choose modules based on the criteria most important to you. Whether you have a particular career goal in mind, or are studying for pure enjoyment, the Master of Laws (General) programme allows you maximum control over your degree.
When you study the LLM Master of Laws (General) with us you will:
You’ll have the chance to select four elective modules that interest you, as well as complete a dissertation that allows you to explore an area linked to one of your elective module subject areas through independent research. You’ll learn practical legal skills in analysis and critical evaluation, alongside a range of transferable skills such as research and presentation skills.
Our flexibly structured course is delivered by qualified lawyers and research and teaching focused academics, bringing their expertise and experience into the classroom to provide you with the real-world insight that can help prepare you for the practical application of the law.
In addition to a general induction to the programme, there is a two-week induction covering the Key Principles of the English Legal System. This is compulsory for non-law students, but also open to law students wanting a refresher in the fundamentals of the law of England and Wales. This would be useful for any student who has taken a considerable break from legal education.
All our lecturers are qualified lawyers and many still practising. You’ll benefit from their insight into today's legal world delivered either on-campus or live online.
Students should possess a UK bachelor’s degree in any subject at 2:2 or above or equivalent qualifications.
Overseas graduates, in addition to the above, we also require an English language qualification at a level equivalent to IELTS 6.5 or above, with a minimum of 6.0 in each component.
